Intracranial hypertension means raised pressure inside the skull — the pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. It causes a heavy, bursting headache, often in the morning, nausea and sometimes visual disturbances. It can follow an injury or infection, result from impaired fluid outflow, or have no obvious cause at all.
